Casa Guatemala's Fair trade initiative is now a reality. Maya Essence is a space offers fair trade goods for the community, we seek inform, educate and support the work of small producers- global and local. Visit us at our storefront. This space serves as a store, distribution center for our coffee (so, if you have any cafes, restaurants that want to serve fair trade, coop coffee, let us know) and as a community space/gallery for our partner orgs and the community in general. So support this new initiative . Come by and check us out.

La iniciativa de Comercio Justo de Casa Guatemala, Escencia Maya ( Maya Essence) es un centro que busca informar, promover la educacion sobre omercio justo e apoyar a pequeños productores glocales- global y local. VOICE OF A MOUNTAIN
ONLINE SCREENING OF DOCUMENTARY!
Voice of a Mountain is a video documentary of the lives of rural Guatemalan coffee farmers who took up arms against their government in a civil war that lasted 36 years. This documentary explores Guatemala's dark history from the perspective of those who saw armed revolution as their only hope for change in a poverty-ridden nation under years of military dictatorship. Ex-combatants talk about the bleak reality of the country that led to their involvement in the war, and the response of genocide from the Guatemalan government against its people. The documentary gives insight into their motives for joining an armed conflict as interviews reveal personal accounts of struggle, hope, tragedy, and the fruits of their resistance.

El documental “La voz de la montaña” es la historia de la vida de unos campesinos cafetaleros que tomaron las armas en contra el gobierno en una guerra civil que duro 36 años. Este documental explora la oscura historia desde la pespectiva de aquellos que vieron la revolución armada como la unica esperanza para erradicar la pobreza bajo años de dictaduras militares. Los excombatientes hablan sobre la cruda realidad de un país y que los llevó a involucrarse en la guerra , y la respuesta del genocidio de parte del gobierno de Guatemala en contra de su gente. El documental enseña las razones de incorporarse a la lucha armada con entrevistas personales que relatan la lucha, la esperanza, la tragedia y los frutos de su Resistencia.

Aid us in Casa Guatemala's Support Program's '08-10 campaign, this is a donation Campaign for Our Community Building initiatives in Guatemala. Help us send quarterly shipments of school, medical and computer equipment and supplies to Guatemala. Next shipment December 2008. So far since Jan '05 computers, medical supplies and donations have been given to the St. Anita COOP, Midwives Clinic in Concepcion and the Union, Esfuerzo & Prosperidad Coop Community Academy in Xela.

Apoye nuestra iniciativa del Programa de Apoyo Guatemalteco del '06-'08. Done y apoye el envio trimestral de recursos escolares, equipo medico y computadoras a Guatemala. Desde el inicio del año, se ha donado a la Coop de la Finca St. Anita, clinica de Comadronas en Concepcion y la Academia Comunitaria de la Cooperative Union, Esfuerzo & Prosperidad en Xela.

Casa Guatemala is an independent, not-for-profit, community-based organization that has long served the Guatemalan as well as the Latin American community, in Chicago and the Midwest.. Since its inception in 1986, Casa Guatemala has sought to create community for Guatemalans and Latin Americans who have migrated to this country in search of a safe haven from political turmoil, war and economic downturns. Casa Guatemala continues with its commitment in working with our communities as they struggle to overcome these inequities in health, education. labor and immigration.

Desde su inicio en 1986, la misión de Casa Guatemala, una organizacion no lucrativa,  asido velar por los intereses de la comunidad, los Guatemaltecos y otros Latino Americanos, que por tener diferencias políticas, guerras y inestabilidad económica han emigrado a este país.. Es por eso que Casa Guatemala continua su misión con la comunidad. Luchando para obtener derechos en educación, salud, trabajo y  migración.
